Some thoughts about the United States election

Given Trump’s recent re-election in the USA, I have several thoughts about the future:

  1. Earth cannot wait for humans to change their behavior. Society’s timeline conflicts with the geological time needed for recovery or minimization of environmental issues. One of Trump’s initial actions as president will likely be to remove Biden-era green economy laws. This will further harm the working class, adding climate pressures that drive up the cost of food, land, and security, making it harder to find safe places for farming and living.
  2. While right-wing parties are often seen as representative of the wealthiest 1% of the population, left-wing parties have chosen to focus on another 1%, often emphasizing issues related to LGBT rights and racism. Although these causes are important, the perception is that left-wing parties have neglected what truly matters: the class struggle. Addressing the class struggle would, in turn, alleviate many of the minor issues faced by this segment of society. Again, while these agendas are significant, what people really want is to make it to the end of the month with their bills paid and better living conditions. Let’s not lose sight of that.
  3. I believe this happened due to the immense anger the working class feels towards politicians. This is a message to the status quo that change is needed. The problem is wealthy individuals want deregulation of markets for profit, and they use social media to mislead the majority. There’s no other explanation.
  4. History has a way of disappointing those who hope for salvation. It moves at its own pace, indifferent to the aspirations of the most progressive segments of society. It’s frustrating, but that’s the reality.
